Orthodox Christian Stewardship during the Financial Meltdown
Orthodox Christian Stewardship during the Financial Meltdown
By Presbyter Radovan Jakovljevic
These days we are witnessing a big economic and financial meltdown in the world. The famous banks are closing, the stock market is weakening, people are losing their jobs and the global economic crisis is on the horizon. People feel more insecure than ever, and frustration over the current situation is enormously high. Although as individuals we are unable to divert the approaching financial catastrophe, as Orthodox Christians we need to be ready to wrestle with the strong financial-crisis winds. This “wrestling” will help us regain our spiritual strength and redirect our focus on the things which are important for our salvation.

The Orthodox Perspective on Abortion at the occasion of the National Sanctity of Human Life Day 2009
By Presbyter Vasilije Vranic
As the president Barack Obama is sworn as the first African-American President of the United States of America a great majority of Christians cannot fully share in the pride and joy of this historical moment, since they are troubled by the new President’s policy on the sanctity of human life. Even during his presidential campaign President Obama made it clear that if elected President, his government will strongly support pro-choice option in the matter of abortion. Perhaps symbolically, his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States came on the National Sanctity of Human Life Day, which inspired this short article. Here I shall attempt to demonstrate why the momentum gained within the last year or so in the pro-life movement must not be stopped now.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1)
Every human being is called to be a member of the One Holy, Catholic (Universal) and Apostolic Church. Our Lord Jesus Christ established His Church in order for it to be a pillar of truth, “…but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” (I Tim. 3:15)The Church is not designed to comprise of only one nation or specific class of people but it is promised to all nations. In the Old Testament we read: “Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”(Exodus 28:14) We are assured of this promise from the very words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who when commissioning His disciples says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
